All students enrolled in curricular chorus are allowed to audition for the Honors Chorus. The Honors Chorus meets twice a week before school and sings challenging vocal music. Sight reading is a major component of this ensemble. Those who make the Honors Chorus will have extra performance responsibilities throughout the year, as outlined in the Chorus Handbook, including two concerts and the District #204 choral festival in March.
Students may choose to sign up for the Solo/Ensemble Contest. They are allowed to perform and ensemble with a group of other students, or they may sing a solo. Preparation for the contest begins by signing up and paying the small fee in December, rehearsing through the winter, and performing at contest in February. Scoring is awarded for the success of each performance by a judge. This is only recommended for 6th graders who are very dedicated to singing.
